Satellites or scarves? The Pin1876 autumn winter 2013-2014 collection plays on this ambivalence.
The scarves float in the atmosphere as if they were comets and planets, clinging to the lightest of lightweight structures, just like the impalpable and gravity-free creations which are “Made in Italy” by the brand from the finest materials of the highest quality. A system of taut ropes and circle-, ellipse- and pentagon-shaped stencils provides a supporting structure in which the scarves are decontextualized and play in mid air with primary shapes. They bring to mind the aerial art works of American artist Alexander Calder, who achieved fame in the 1960s with his mobiles, or suspended metal sculptures that have a formal affinity with the configuration of the cosmos. The creations of Pin1876, featuring colourways that fluctuate between earthy and crepuscular, stand out against a backdrop of evocatively peeling walls, which seem to pay tribute to the elegant and dream-like interiors so beloved of Czech photographer Jan Saudek.
